Albert is listed as being killed in action on 9th December 1915. The very brief 71st Field Company war diary entries for the 8 & 9th December are transcribed below.

Chocolate Hill, Suvla - 8.12.1915: Lieut Bell is wounded. Cpl Bastin and four men rejoin.

Chocolate Hill, Suvla - 9.12.1915: Sapper Willey is killed & Sapper Foss wounded by shrapnel fire.
