Circumstances of Death
Walter is listed as dying of wounds on 8th April 1918. The 1st/8th Battalion (Post Office Rifles) war diary entries for March and April are missing from the official record. Walter would have been evacuated from a Casualty Clearing Station to the General Hospital in Rouen. We are unable to establish where and how Walter was wounded but we do know that the 1st/8th Battalion took part in the following actions just prior to his death:
