Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Arthur is listed as being killed in action on 2 Nov 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. The brieft war diary entry for that day is transcribed below:

Front Line - 2-11-16 - Thurs: The morning was spent in work on the trenches which were in very bad condition.

In the afternoon the Battalion was relieved by 9th R.W.F [Royal Welsh Fusiliers]. Relief complete 3pm. Companies returned to their former positions in Reserve Trench except that B Coy went to Zollern Redoubt & A Coy to Danube Trench.

Casualties: 1 killed [Arthur] and 9 wounded. END
