Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Eli was on board the troop ship HMT Aragon on his way to Egypt to take part in the Sinai Campaign, on 30 Dec 1917 HMT Aragon was 8 miles away from port at Alexandria where she was torpedoed by German U-Boat UC-34 and was sunk with the loss of 610 souls.
