William is listed as being killed in action on  8 Jun 1915. The war diary for that day is transcribed below and it indicates that William was killed by shellfire.

Vlamertinghe - 8th June: A good deal of shelling, mostly on support trenches, A Coy. Work done on the trenches, in very bad order and weak. Thunderstorm 4pm cooled the air. Very hot in morning. Wind SW. Lieut A.C. Hoare and Lieut H.L.F Strevens joined.

Casualties other ranks 3 killed 12 wounded. END
