Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The war diary states that, at about 3pm on that day, 2nd Lt. H. A. St George, went from a forward trench at Zwarteleen to headquarters in Zillebeke to report intelligence on enemy activity. Whereupon, after leaving to return to the trenches, he was shot dead by a sniper, who was apparently posted in a house on the Zillebeke to Klein Zillebeke Road.

Zillebeke Church was completely destroyed reduced to a pile of rubble and mud before being rebuilt after the war.
