- Joined the 2nd. Bn (Westminster Dragoons) County of London Yeomanry in February 1912
- Oct 1914 Posted to Egypt with his battalion
- 1915 to Gallipoli where he contracted jaundice and was invalided home on 25 Nov 1915
- July 1916 joined an OTC at Lichfield in July 1916 and was gazetted 2nd. Lieutenant, 20th Battn. the London Regiment
- Posted to France and in April/May 1917 took part in Battle of Bullecourt where he was wounded and again posted home to recover
- October 1915 returned to the front in France
Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
On 2nd December 1917 Francis was wounded by a shell splinter during a German counterattack in the front lines at Bourlon Wood and died in hospital the following day |
