Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The CWGC records Alexander's unit as the 886th M.T. Company who were part of a Corps Supply Column and were based near Vlamertinge when he was killed. We believe the record is incorrect as he is commorated at Pozieres 102 km south of there.
Thanks to the help and knowledge of two members of The Great War Forum we believe that he was attached to, or a member of, the 46th Motor Transport Company Army Service Corps (46th M.T. Coy, ASC) which was part of the 2nd Cavalry Division who took part in the Battle of St. Quentin. On the day Alexander is listed as being killed in action the 46th Coy were in the vicinity of Noyon when they were attacked by enemy aircraft who bombed their "park" killing or wounding 36 men and we believe that Alexander was one of those killed.
