Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

14th Bn was part of 13th Infantry Brigade who were ordered to attack and capture the German lines at Falfemont Farm & Main Line trench but due the failure of another battalion to capture another target the 14th's flank was left open to German machine gun fire which caused very heavy losses (292 in total) and forced the battalion to retire.
