- Louis was mobilised at the outset of the war and joined C Squadron at Warwick on 10 Aug 1914
- The 1st/1st landed in Egypt on 24 Apr 1915
- On 14 Aug 1915 the 1st/1st left Egypt from Alexandria
- On 18 Aug 1915 the 1st/1st arrived off the coast of Gallipoli and disembarked under fire
- On 20 Aug 1915 they moved to Lala Baba with 200 rounds of ammunition and 2 days rations each
- On 21 Aug 1915 they saw the first of many actions when they took part in the failed attempt to capture Anfarta Heights
- After surviving Gallipoli it is highly likely that during the Charge at Huj on 8 Nov 1917 he was with the balance of the 1st/1st that
were watering their horses several miles back when the Charge went in arriving at Huj later in the afternoon. - Louis was reposted to the 1st/1st County of London (Middlesex) Yeomanry on 22 Jul 1918 in Egypt and was still serving with them
when he boarded HMHS Assaye on 12 Oct 1918.
