  • Louis was mobilised at the outset of the war and joined C Squadron at Warwick on 10 Aug 1914
  • The 1st/1st landed in Egypt on 24 Apr 1915
  • On 14 Aug 1915 the 1st/1st left Egypt from Alexandria
  • On 18 Aug 1915 the 1st/1st arrived off the coast of Gallipoli and disembarked under fire
  • On 20 Aug 1915 they moved to Lala Baba with 200 rounds of ammunition and 2 days rations each
  • On 21 Aug 1915 they saw the first of many actions when they took part in the failed attempt to capture Anfarta Heights
  • After surviving Gallipoli it is highly likely that during the Charge at Huj on 8 Nov 1917 he was with the balance of the 1st/1st that
    were watering their horses several miles back when the Charge went in arriving at Huj later in the afternoon.  
  • Louis was reposted to the 1st/1st County of London (Middlesex) Yeomanry on 22 Jul 1918 in Egypt and was still serving with them
    when he boarded HMHS Assaye on 12 Oct 1918.

Circumstances of Death

Louis is recorded as dying of Dysentery on 19 Oct 1918 in a Military Hospital at Alexandria. Surviving medical records show that on 12 Oct 1918 he was in Haifa Hospital and was then taken onboard HMHS Assaye suffering with diarrhea and was transported to Alexandria where he arrived on 14 Oct 1918 and, as per the above, he died 5 days later on 19 Oct 1918.
