Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Charles is listed as being killed in action on 10 Nov 1916. The war diary informs us that:
  • On the 9th November the Battalion relieved the 1st Bn Sherwood Foresters in the front lines near Lesboeuf.
  • On 10th November: "In the trenches: Artillery very active on both sides. (The enemy shelled us with gas shells during the relief. 4 other ranks killed, including Charles, 6 wounded and 6 missing".
