Information Regarding 15th Entrenching Battalion

The 15th Entrenching Battalion was created on 21st/22nd February 1918 at Wippenhoek and was formed from several disbanded infantry battalions including the 11th Bn Royal Warwickshure.  Effectively George was transferred and not, as his CWGC record states, attached to this new unit. Sadly it has, of yet, not been possible to find a surviving war diary for them at present. By the 7th March 1918 they were part of 3 Corps, 5th Army. It’s possible that they were employed digging reserve trenches which would have very quickly became front line trenches at the start of the German Spring Offensive. This Information came from a user at The Great War (1914-1918) Forum.

Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

As stated above the war diary for March 1918 for the 15th Battalion is missing, along with many others, most likely because it was lost or destroyed during the German offensives when many Bn HQ's were overrun or destroyed. Therefore, at this time, it is not possible to say where George was located on the day he was killed.
