Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

The War Diary is barely readable. On the day William is listed as being killed the Battalion were in the lines near Brielen, NW of Ypres and took part in an attack on enemy lines by British troops on the first day of the Fifth Battle of Ypres which was part of the Hundred Day Offensive.
