Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
Albert was killed during the Second Action of the Battle of Arras (see above). All military records state that was he was killed in action on 29th April. On that day the battalion was relieved in the trenches just before daybreak by the 10tn Bn Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and they then marched to waiting transport at St. Nicholas and then onto billets at Denier. On the 28th and into the 29th the Battalion advanced from their positions in Clasp Trench to attack enemy positions at Greenland Hill, many of the officers and senior NCO's became casualties and the attack became confused before taking up, and holding, a line 300 yards east of Cuba trench where they remained until being relieved per the above.
