Harry is listed as being killed in action on 21st November 1916. The very brief 11th Battalion war diary entries for the 20th, 21st & 22nd are transcribed below. Station Road - 20.XI.16 - 5pm: The Battalion moved to & occupied trenches adjoined Redoubt Alley, relieving the 13th K.R.R.C. During the relief the hostile artillery fire was intense, 2nd Lt T.O.L Drake was wounded also 2nd Lt H.R. Spranger. 21.XI.16 - Redoubt Alley: Intense intermittent hostile shell fire on our trenches the whole day. Trenches in a very wet condition, men suffered from exposure. 22.XI.16 - Redoubt Alley: Conditions as on previous day. At 7.30pm the Battalion was relieved by the 8th East Lancs Regt. The battalion retired to Station Road in Reserve. |
