Circumstances of Death

George is listed as being killed in action on 25 Sep 1918 and the 10th Battalion war diary entry for that day is transcribed below.

Front Line – Wed 25.9.18: Attack under artillery barrage at 8.0am by 3/Worcs & Brigade on their right. B Coy 10/R War R attacked at 8.30am and after a slight repulse carried the objective of La Bassee Road & established a line beyond. D Coy moved up in support.

Casualties in B Coy heavy and line withdrawn a little. C Coy moved up in support of B & D. Coy of Battalion in support moved up to occupy line of resistance vacated by our support companies.

Line of La Bassee Road not finally established until late, after much fighting. Captures – 15 Other Ranks

Leave: 2/Lt HR Peskett & 1 OR proceeded on leave.
Casualties: 2/Lt C.M. Beaufoy Killed. Capt LR Swinhoe and 2/Lt AR Harrison wounded
Draft: 8 O.R’s (all rejoining) joined Bn.
