- John served with the Royal Field Artillery prior to the war and was a Territorial Force Reservist which is why he was sent to France so quickly after enlistment.
- 23 Mar 1917 - transferred on attachment from 7th Division HQ DT Coy, Army Service Corps to the 22nd Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps
- 19 Nov 1917 - moved to the Italian theatre
Circumstances of Death
From his service records we know that on the 15th December 1918 John was with 2 Officers and another soldier when they were standing at the junction of the Tavernelle - Vicenza Road, Tavernelle when a large British motor lorry skidded on the muddy road while turning into the junction and hit John in the back, face & head, knocking him over causing injuries to his face and head. The lorry did not stop. John did not recover from his injuries and died 7 days after the accident on 22nd December 1918, at the 11th General Hospital in Genoa, Italy. |
