Circumstances of Death

Arthur is listed as being killed in action on 10th November 1916. The 10th Battalion war diary entries for the 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th are transcribed below. No mention is made of casualties.

Trenches - Gravel Pits - 8.[11.16]: The Battalion relieved the 7th Kings Own in the trenches.

Trenches - Gravel Pits - 9.[11.16]:Owing to very bright moonlight it was impossible to send out patrols. Artillery fairly active on both sides. Working on trenches at cleaning up, scooping out water and working under RE's on fire steps & ? & on dugouts.

Trenches - Gravel Pits - 10.[11.16]: Aeroplanes active on both sides. 2 hostile planes brought down. Patrols report that work is being done in Desire Trench. Artillery very active.

Trenches - Gravel Pits - 11.[11.16]: Artillery very active. The battalion was relieved by the 9th R.W.F in the trenches & returned to billets at Aveluy
