Circumstances of Death

Arthur is listed as dying of wounds on 25 Oct 1918, he was then buried at the Premont British Cemetery which was used by the 20th, 50th, 55th and 61st Casualty Clearing Stations at nearby Bohain, it is most likely that Arthur died in one of them.

There are conflicting records regarding which Battalion Arthur was attached to, the main CWGC record states he was in the 8th Bn but a grave registration document states 1st/5th Bn. The 8th Bn war diary places them near Haussey, which is over 30km's from the Casualty Clearing Station and the 1st/5th diary places that Bn near Serain, the closest village to Premont.

Neither diary gives any accurate description of when and where casualties occurred and we have decided not to transcribe either of them.
