Military Cross
Haydon was awarded the Military Cross in the 1918 New Years Honours List for "Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. [On 9 Sep 1917] He led his platoon through severe enfilade rifle and machine-guns fire to reinforce the attacking troops, who had suffered heavy casualties. He at once organised position and held off a
counter-attack, holding onto a precarious position with a handful of men. It was owing to his courage and determination that the position was held".
