Circumstances of Death
Thomas is listed as dying of wounds on 22 Dec 1916 at a German Prisoner of War Camp at Cambrai. The following details are taken from Red Cross Prisoner of War records and the 2nd/7th Battalion war diary. A short article in the Warwick Advertised on 13 Jan 1917 reports that Thomas was reported missing in action on 19 Dec 1916. Red Cross records [click here] show that Thomas died of wounds caused by grenade fragments at the German Prisoner of War Camp Field Hospital at Cambrai. A second Red Cross record [click here] states that he mortally wounded when he was captured at Thiepval on 19 Dec 1916. War Diary 2nd Lt Nicholson and 9 OR proceeded on leave. |
