Original Enlistment

From his service number, 5392 we believe that Ernest enlisted at some time between 4 Feb 1914 when # 5363 was issued and 24 Jul 1914 when # 5568 was issued.

Circumstances of Death

The attached record shows that Ernest was found dead in his tent on 23.5.1918 and that his death was due to exposure experienced on ordinary military duties. It appears that his tent was at the 40th Stationary Hospital at Harfleur near Le Havre and must have been taken there suffering from the effects of exposure. We do not know when or where Ernest was when he orginally became ill.
