Tom is listed as being killed in action on 4 Oct 1917. The 2nd Battalion war diary entry for that day is transcribed below. [Ypres Map Ref 28.I.] 14.c.20.45 - 4/10/17 – 05.30: The enemy placed a very heavy barrage on and in rear of our front line 06.00: Our artillery opened and the attacking troops of the 1st Bde pressed though our lines. The shelling on our lines became far more intense at about 10.00 & caused us severe casualties. The shelling was so intense on the left that our left Coy, B, had to be moved up to the centre of the sector. The pill box used as B & D Coy HQ was handed over as a dressing station & B&D established in A&C Coy HQ. The following officers because casualties, killed Lt’s White, Horton & Brew? |
