Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
|
George died of pneumonia at the Shipston on Stour Cottage Hospital having been taken ill whilst on leave, visiting relatives. An obituary in the Stratford on Avon Herald on October 25th 1918 reported: ILMINGTON "SOLDIERS FUNERAL - The funeral of Private George Hall of the New Zealand Volunteers took place here on Wednesday. He emigrated seven years ago, and when he joined up went with his regiment to France after training and came over to visit his relatives three weeks ago. Being somewhat unwell his medical adviser ordered his removal to Shipston Cottage Hospital from treatment. Alarming symptoms manifested themselves, including pneumonia, which carried him off on Friday last. The service was conducted by Rev. Dr, Klein, rector of Newbold. Hall was thirty years of age". |
