George was killed/drowned at sea when his vessel, SS Aburi, was sunk on 17 April 1917 by torpedo fired by German submarine U-61 at position 56° 14' N, 11° 30' W which is in the North Atlantic 125 miles NW of Tory Island and W of Glasgow.
