Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Albert was killed on 9 May 1918 during a sustained enemy Air raid on Etaples and district commencing about 10.30pm and lasting until 1am the following day. At least 27 bombs were dropped on the area which was home to a large concentration of allied military hospitals. In relation to the Life Guards (by now a Machine Gun regiment) shortly before midnight two bombs fell into their camp causing deaths of 42 men and wounding another 83.
