Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
It has not been possible to identify when and where Walter was wounded. The war diary shows that on and after the first day of the German Spring Offensive on March 21st 1918 the battalion was constantly on the move from Sorel (21st) to Saulcourt (22nd) to Tincourt (23rd) to Fevilleres (24/26/27) Provart (27th), Morcourt (28th), Caveux (29/30), Longeau (31st), Bovelles (1st & 2nd Apr), Laleu (3/4/5/6) Citernes (7/8th).
After being wounded Walter was transported at least 100km to the huge medical complex in the Rouen area which was home to eight general, five stationary and one British Red Cross Hospitals. Walter died from his wounds in one of them on 8th April 1918
