Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Tom is listed as being killed in action on 13 Apr 1918. The Battalion war diary for that day is copied below and Tom was killed during the events described.:
  • 6.00am Enemy artillery very active on our front line and very accurate sniping
  • 8.00am Enemy attacked on our front but was beaten off with rifle and Lewis gun fire
  • 5.00pm Enemy again attacked and forced the 9th Irish Fus[iliers] to retire. Maj Waring by collecting stragglers and those retiring took them forward again at once successfully counterattacked and saved the situation by getting back the lost ground.
