During the South Africa campaigns Charles served in actions at Cape Colony, Orange River and Transvaal.
Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
Charles was wounded on 14 Sep 1914 la Cour de Soupir farm, nr Soupir, Aisne during heavy fighting when the battalion were successfully clearing the village of Soupier along with other battalions of the Brigade of Guards near the head of the valley north-west of the village. Dressing stations were established at Soupir Chateau and at the farm. Charles died two days after being wounded.Personal & Family History |

Although Charles never lived in Long Itchington his family had long held ties there and they erected a plaque in his honour inside Holy Trinity Church on 16 Apr 1915.
