Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
| It is not known how Leonard was killed, the 23rd Brigade war diary for the day (31 Jul 1916) reads "A very hot and quiet day". We do know that at the time Leonard was killed the Brigade were supporting allied troops in their attacks on Delville Wood and against German troops attacking Longueval.
