Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

William died died of wounds to the face and a fractured shoulder at the 8th Casualty Clearing Station at Agnes les Duisans on 30 Mar 1918. It is not known for certain when or where William was wounded, between the 20th and 25th Mar the battalion was in the trenches in the Rouex sector from the 26th to the 28th were out of the lines at Gordon Camp but came under heavy attack on the 28th and were gassed. On the 29th they were fighting the enemy at Battery trench.
