Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary shows that on 30 Nov 1917 the Battalion were at Bertincourt when
"at about 11am orders came in for the battalion to hold itself in readiness as the Germans were attacking the 3rd Corps front very heavily near Gonnelieu. Half an hour later orders came to move and the Battalion left Bertincourt and advanced via Ruyaulcourt to near Metz. There is adopted artillery formation and continued to advance toward Gouzeaucourt Wood. The situation at this time very obscure. We had heard that the Germans had taken Gouzeaucourt and it was reported that this village has later been captured. The 1st and 3rd Guards Brigades were in front of the 2nd Guards Brigade which at dusk reached Gouzeaucourt Wood and took up a position there". End.
Raymond was killed during the advance.
