John's service records state that he was wounded on 22 Sep 1917 and died the following day on 23 Sep 1917 at the 61st (South MIdlands) Casualty Clearing Centre. War Diary shows the Bn engaged from 19th to 25th in attempts to capture enemy positions near Langemark.
