Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

On the day he died the battalion were in the Givenchy trenches when they ordered to capture the high ground NW of Givenchy-les-la-Bassee near Red Dragon Crater, unfortunately the war diary is not more specific
about locations and does not give map references or many place names. The diary states that the attack started at 4.45am just as dawn was breaking and all objectives had been captured by 5.50 am.
