Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The war diary makes no mention of casualties during the whole month of November. What is does tell us it that on 1st Nov 1918 the battalion marched 3.5km from Deerlijk to Harelbeek. On the 2nd Nov, the date he is stated to have died in action, the battalion spent the day in billets at Harelbeek. On the 3rd Nov the battalion marched 10.5km to Wevelghem where they stayed in billets until the 14th Nov (3 days after the Armistice). Therefore it is assumed that the billets at Harelbeek were hit by enemy shell fire. No other members of the battalion are recorded as dying on that day.
