Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

I am unable to find a war diary but research shows that 709 Company were part of III Corps who were HQ'd at Ugny-le-Gay in early 1918, Ugny-le-Gay is 13kn SSE of Ham. We don't know exactly where William was killed but his Medal Card states he was killed in action and his Pension card states that he was "killed by enemy aircraft" and it looks like he was taken to the 61st (South Midland) Casualty Clearing Station next to Ham Cemetery.
