Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Records held by the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum show that John was wounded on 10 Jan 1917. The Battle of Rafa took place on the 9th January 1917 in which the Regiment sustained casualties of 3 men killed in action and 2 men who died of wounds along with 2 Officers and 32 other ranks being wounded. It is suspected he was wounded at Rafa and listed as a casualty for the following day as he is not mentioned by name for the 9th.

Given the length of time between being wounded and his death it is most likely that John was treated at the 69th General Hospital which was based close to the Deir El Belah War Cemetery where he is buried.
