Christophers is listed as being killed on 10 May 1917, the war diary for the period 9th to 13th May 1917 is transcribed below as the diary indicates that there were no casualties on the day Christopher is listed as being killed:- Tilloy - 9th [May 1917]: Hostile artillery very active last night but quietened down at dawn. A direct hit was obtained on Saddle Trench causing casualties to a Lewis Gun team. Front line trenches were intermittently shelled during afternoon but no casualties. Work on general improvement of trenches carried out. Casualties for the day 16 other ranks Tilloy - 10th [May 1917]: Battalion relieved tonight by the London Scottish and on relief proceed to trenches in the Wancourt Line becoming right Battalion Reserve. Battalion HQ at N.16.b.1.8. Casualties nil. Wancourt Line - 11th to 13th [May 1917]: Remained in Wancourt Line. Casualties for this period were 20 other ranks. |
