Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

The war diary shows that on 30 June 1918 the battalion were consolidating and extending their lines near the River Bourre north of Merville and east of the Neippe Forest. Protective Patrols were sent out but the enemy was not encountered or sighted. Thomas was the only man killed during the day although two others were wounded
