The war diary reveals that the battalion were in trenches at Cuinchy when they launched a successful attack and captured enemy trenches known as Brickfields/Brickstacks (due to the large stacks of undelivered building bricks nearby). Frank was one of 11 men killed during the attack. 26 other men were wounded.
