Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Percy is listed as having been killed in action of 14 Jul 1917. The relevant part of the Company war diary for the day is transcribed below and it can be seen that Percy was killed when an enemy shell landed in his trench:
 
Biache - 14/7/17:- At 3.50am [a] stray enemy shell landed in Charlie Trench and we had the following casualties:-
Killed 50769 Pte H.H. WATSON
Wounded 53039 Sgt H JOHNSON
      "         3687 Pte W J ROAT
      "       82334 Pte A HINES
 
An enemy shell also landed in Caledonian Trench at no 14 Gun Position. We had the following casualties:-
