Jesse died of wounds at a Military Hospital in Rouen having been wounded by enemy shelling on 8th December 1916. The 307th Brigade war diary entry for that day is transcribed below. 57d.R.34.d.5.7 [N of Pozieres] – Dec 8th 1916: During the morning the Dump at Tullocks Corner and Battery position of D/307 was heavily shelled causing several casualties. It was therefore decided to move the Battery into an unoccupied position at R.34.c.7.0. Major Torrens commanding the Battery [D] was unfortunately killed. |
