Circumstances of Death

Norman is listed as being killed in action on 12th September 1918. Norman was a member of D Company. The very brief 12th Battalion war diary entries for the period 10th to 13th September are transcribed below. No mention of casualties is made nor are there any other reports about the events of the 12th. Norman was buried in Epehy.

Epehy – 10/9/18: Attack on Epehy by 173rd Infantry Brigade unsuccessful. Battalion took over part of the line at night.

Epehy – 11/9/18: In front of Epehy – 9th & 10th Battalions joined [12th] Battalion in the line

Epehy – 12/9/18: Enemy put down box barrage and attacked Tattenham Post. D Company were surrounded & post taken.

Epehy – 13/9/18: Relieved by Suffolks and went into support
