Circumstances Leading to Death

The brigade were in the front lines in the Ypres sector for a number of days before and after William was wounded, they were subject to regular harrassing enemy fire that caused low level daily casualties. He would have been taken to either the 4th, 47th or 61st Casualty Clearing Stations at Krombeke where he died.
