Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary tells us that on the 20th October 1914 the Battalion moved into the front lines at Lonnebeke (Zonnebeke) and the following day the German forces attacked their lines from the direction of Rouvers. The diary mentions that they experienced their first high explosive shell bombardment which caused a great many casualties forcing them to withdraw to the railway crossing SW of Lonnebeke. Harry was killed during this attack.| Personal & Family History |
