Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

There was no set battle during January 1915 and the battalion alternated between the front B Lines and billets at Red Barn both in the La Gorgue area. James was one of two casualties that day, most likely killed by very active snipers who causing daily casualties. This excellent website about the history of the Worcestershire Regiment gives a day by day movement, casualty names and rolling count. It is one of the best we have seen.

Other Information

Please note that we are still investigating the family history for James because we believe a "few fibs" will have been told to allow him to enlist at such a young age - he died aged 17.
