Real Name
|
Norman Kingsley was an alias used by Ephraim Needham when he enlisted for his military service. Ephraim was born in 1896 near Belper. On 18 April 1914 Ephraim was given 12 months probation for theft of a bicycle in his home town of Nottingham and this may be why he gave a false name and address at enlistment. When he enlisted he gave his place of birth and residence as Stratford on Avon but there are no records showing a man by that name ever living in the Stratford area and we do not believe that he was ever associated with the town. |
Circumstances of Death
| Ephraim died of his wounds at the 20th Casualty Clearing Station in Warlincourt-Halte on 25th April 1917. We have not yet confirmed exactly when Ephraim was wounded but it was most likely on the 23th April when the battalion suffered casualties of 17 officers and 352 other ranks when they attacked German positions near Vis-en-Artois.
