John died of sub-acute Rheumastism and Aortic & Mitral Valvular Disease at his home, 3 Arthur Street, on 20 March 1921. John was the CSM of B Company during the war, having joined as a Private, and served in both France & Italy before being discharged on 29th September 1919. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in June 1918 in recognition of "valuable services rendered with the Forces in Italy". |
