Meritorious Service Medal Citation
War Office,October 18,1916: His Majesty the KING has been graciously pleased to award the Meritorious Service Medal to the undermentioned Warrant Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Men, in recognition, of valuable services rendered during the present War.
Circumstances of Death
Albert died of wounds on 2nd October 1917 at the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, Lijssenthoek. The 3rd Division Ammunition Column contains very little useful information and only entries for this period are on the 27th Sept, 29th Sept and 1st October and they are transcribed below and it shows that Albert was most likely wounded on 1st October whilst moving ammunution near Poperinghe. 27th Sept 1917: HQ 3rd Div D.A.C moved to G.10.g.5.5 (sheet 28) E of Poperinghe 29th Sep 1917: Nois 1 & 2 Sections moved to a camp 1½ miles East of Poperinghe on the Poperinghe-Vlamertinghe Road at G.10.a (sheet 28) 1st Oct 1917: The column was engaged at this period packing ammunition to Batteries. |
