Circumstances of Death

George is listed as dying of his wounds on 2 Sep 1917. He is buried at Bleuet Farm Cemetery. Bleuet Farm was home to a Dressing Station put in place in prepartion for the Third Battle of Ypres. As George died at a Dressing Station it is likely that he died soon after he wounded and before he could be evacuated to a Casualty Clearing Station or Hospital. (Click here for more on the Evacution Chain for the Third Battle of Ypres).

The war diary for the 1st and 2nd September 1917 is transcribed below. The diary does not appear to contain any references to Casualties so does not help identify a specific day that George was wounded, although it does mention the destruction of a gun belonging to D Battery on the 1st Sept.
